2. How does the $10,000 Google AdWords grant project work?

Yes, you heard us right! Springboard has partnered with Google to give you an opportunity to directly develop and execute a paid advertising marketing campaign for one of their supported nonprofits using Google AdWords. You’ll get to work with some serious money - $10,000 USD - while helping a nonprofit have a more successful online presence. 

Managing a real budget is one of the best ways to showcase your value to future employers. You help others, while getting real world experience. Not only will this project make you stand out from the rest, the experience you gain will be invaluable the next time you have to set up an AdWords campaign.

3. What are the accommodations?

Accommodations vary from city to city, but we always provide Remotes with a private bedroom in a Remote Year-sourced apartment. Remote Year provides linens, towels, and an internet connection in all accommodations. If you have any lodging preferences or special needs, we’ll do our best to prioritize those requests.

4. Do I need visas?

We aren’t immigration/visa professionals, and the following shouldn’t be construed as visa, immigration, or legal advice rendered by Remote Year.

As a general rule, whether or not you need a visa depends on what country you’re from and which countries your Remote Year trip is traveling to. While some participants may need a visa to enter certain countries, many countries have visa waiver programs for tourists. To date, Remote Year has traveled to more than 20 countries with people holding more than 30 types of passports and we’ve found the process to be quite smooth.

There are also private companies, like VisaHQ, that can help you determine what visa (if any) you may need (they do this part for free), and also help you obtain any visas you may need (this part isn’t free).


5. How many hours is the curriculum?

The Digital Marketing Career Track is a 200+ hour course. You will complete the course in 4 months, working 10 - 15 hours per week while traveling.


6. What does the curriculum contain and how do I know it is the best?

We work with industry experts to determine the most relevant topics in digital marketing, and find the best resources on each topic (e.g., videos, tutorials, and lectures).

Note that many of the videos and resources in the curriculum are not created in-house by us. Instead, we find and curate the best resources available on the subject. Think of us as a college professor who creates a syllabus by combining the best textbook chapters, articles, papers, and projects (instead of teaching from only their own textbook).

We believe that the curated curriculum is our unique strength. By standing on the shoulders of giants, we’re able to update the curriculum frequently and always teach the latest tools and technologies.

7. What kind of support can I expect with the Springboard + Remote Year travel and learn program?

You’ll have support from:

  • Your mentor:  A digital marketing expert will provide weekly 1:1 guidance and accountability in a 30-minute call.
  • Unlimited mentor calls: Outside of your weekly 1:1 mentor call, you’ll also have unlimited mentor calls to get extra support as needed
  • Prep resources: Support from the Remote Year onboarding team with all of the details you will need leading up to your travels (visas, immunizations, packing, connectivity)
  • Community teaching assistants: Dedicated help any time you’re stuck, and available to offer detailed, unlimited feedback on each project.
  • Unlimited career coaching sessions: Your career coach will help with resume reviews, mock interviews, job search strategy, etc.
  • Springboard student advisors: Our advisors are here to provide unlimited support and answer questions, discuss goals, and provide tips and support on any aspect of the program. 
  • Local and traveling staff: A Remote Year program leader for each group, plus local staff on the ground in each city for safety and communication support.

8. How do I earn a certificate of completion?

We will provide a certificate of completion to all students who complete the course and receive mentor approval on their final project(s). You can display your certificate on LinkedIn via our integration, or add to your resume.

9. Is this course conducted online or in person?

All of our courses are entirely online. All you need is an Internet connection.

10. Are there any prerequisites for this course?

To ensure a successful learning experience, you must be proficient in spoken and written English. You should also hold a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from any educational institution in any subject. Most employers still require a bachelor's degree for these roles. 

Note: A successful digital marketer has a quantitative and analytical aptitude, is comfortable writing customer-facing copy, is an active user of digital technologies, and displays ambition and the ability to learn new skills quickly.

11. How does the admissions process work?

Spots are limited and we accept applications on a rolling basis. The first step involves a 20-minute questionnaire to learn about your prior educational, work, and skills experience. Based on your responses, we might ask for additional information (e.g., a brief phone interview) just to make sure the Digital Marketing Career Track is a good fit for you.
